Apple has updated its iMac family with new Retina 4K displays for the 21.5in iMac and Retina 5K for every 27in iMac.

As well as boosting graphics and processors, the machines will come with two Thunderbolt 2 ports and new storage options.

Apple first revealed 5K Retina with 27in iMac devices last year on the 30th anniversary of the first Apple Macintosh computer.

New accessories including a new Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse 2 and Magic Trackpad 2.

The Magic keyboard, trackpad and mouse come with rechargeable batteries and the Magic Trackpad has Apple’s Force Touch interface.

The new Retina 5K and 4K displays feature a wider P3-based colour gamut that provides a 25pc larger colour space.

The 27in iMac also comes with Intel’s sixth generation Core processors and the latest AMD graphics chips that deliver 3.7 teraflops of computing power.

The new iMacs also come with Apple’s Fusion Drive technology, which combines traditional hard-drive storage with Flash to reduce boot times and more quickly access files and apps.

Fusion Drive is available in 2TB and 3TB configurations.

Each new Mac will also come with the latest version of OS X, El Capitan, as well as iWork apps, iMovie and Garage Band.

The 27in iMac with Retina 5K display is available today (13 October) and comes in three models, starting at €2,149 and going up to €2,349 and €2,699.

The 21.5in iMac is also available from today in three models priced at €1,299 and €1,549 and with a Retina 4K display starting at €1,749.

Each comes standard with the Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse 2.

“From the first iMac to today, the spirit of iMac has never wavered — delivering the ultimate desktop experience with the latest technologies, gorgeous displays and cutting-edge designs,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing.

“These are the most stunning iMacs we’ve ever made. With our gorgeous new Retina displays, more powerful processors and graphics and all-new Magic accessories, the new iMac continues to redefine the ultimate desktop experience.”
