The second generation Nexus 7 tablet computer – the Nexus 7.2 – will arrive in Ireland around the same time as it goes on sale in the UK on 28 August, tech distributor Asus has confirmed.
A spokesman for Asus confirmed that the device will be available on Google Play and that PC World and Currys will have a good supply of stock of the device.
It emerged that the second generation Nexus 7, which is already available in the US, will go on sale in the UK on 28 August.
“Yes it looks like it should be available around the same time if not smack on [the] 28th,” the Asus spokesman told Siliconrepublic.com.
When the Nexus 7.2 goes on sale in the UK it is expected to cost stg£199.99 (€232.34) for the 16GB Wi-Fi only version and stg£239.99 (€278.81) for the 32GB Wi-Fi only version.
The Nexus 7.2 comes with a new high-resolution screen, which packs 323ppi – compared to the original’s 216ppi – into the same 7-inch display. The display has been boosted from 1,280 x 800 to 1,920 x 1,200 for a true 1080p HD experience, and making the new Nexus 7 the world’s highest resolution 7-inch tablet.
The 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU is nearly twice as fast as the first generation while the 400MHz Adreno 320 GPU is almost four times as fast.
Other features of the new Nexus 7 include 2GB RAM, an NFC chip, Bluetooth 4.0, dual-band Wi-Fi, a 4G LTE variant and, of course, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.
