RIM expects to ship 1m units of the BlackBerry PlayBook tablets for the first quarter of 2011, reports say.
According to DigiTimes, industry sources have said that notebook manufacturer Quanta Computer has begun volume production of RIM’s tablet computer.
This is intended to compete with the Motorola’s shipment of the Xoom tablets, set to hit between 700,000 and 800,000.
Executives from Quanta Computer have also given recommendations on the PlayBook’s Tablet OS after using it at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
It reports that the tablet will appear in March, launching as a Wi-Fi only model at first. A 3G model will ship in the second quarter.
