Sony has officially named its upcoming Honeycomb tablets – the Sony Tablet S and the Sony Tablet P.
Speaking at the IFA conference in Berlin, Kazuo Hirai, executive deputy president at Sony, gave the two tablets their official names, along with release dates and pricing.
They both have front and rear facing cameras along with USB 2.0 ports and SD card slots for extra memory.
Sony Tablet S
The Sony Tablet S has a single 9.4 inch IPS display with Sony TruBlack and Bravia technologies.
It’s equipped with a NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor and weighs 598g.
It has an off-centre design, aimed at improving the balance when a user holds the tablet.
Wi-Fi only models will run on Android 3.1, which can be updated to Android 3.2. 3G and Wi-Fi models will have Android 3.2 installed from the start.
The Sony Tablet S will cost from €479 and will be available at the end of September in Europe.
Sony Tablet P
The Sony Tablet P is a dual-screen device with 5.5 inch displays, which can fold over for storage. The screens can work alone or together, depending on the purpose.
An example of this is with its ereading app, as users can view separate pages on the separate screens.
Users can also play games using the bottom screen as a controller and the top screen to view the game.
It weighs 372g and is also equipped with a NIVIDIA Tegra 2 mobile processor.
This tablet won’t have a Wi-Fi only model and will run on Android 3.2.
The Sony Tablet P will be available in November starting from €599.
