Grifols is investing around €90m in a new operations facility in Dublin, bringing 140 jobs to the region. The facility, situated in Grange Castle Business Park, will ‘come on stream’ in a few months.
In what is the first investment by a Spanish life sciences company in Ireland, plasma product manufacturer Grifols is opening a new global operations centre for its bioscience division.
The 140 jobs will be housed in a facility focused on commercial policy, R&D and supply chain needs.
The centre – situated near a Pfizer facility – will also house warehousing of plasma, intermediate paste and finished product, labelling, packaging and final conditioning, as well as administrative procedures and final validations release activities related to plasma supply.
Grifols’ bioscience division had €2.5bn sales last year, representing three-quarters of the company’s entire business, with business outside of Spain generating the vast majority of the company’s sales.
“Grifols is a very welcome addition to the thriving life sciences sector in Ireland,” said Martin Shanahan, CEO of IDA Ireland.
“Its decision to establish this important part of its international business in Ireland plays an important role in attracting other investments from the European marketplace.
“This is a breakthrough investment for Ireland in the important blood plasma subsector of biopharmaceuticals.”
The three bioscience facilities the company already operates are in the US (Clayton and Los Angeles) and Spain (Barcelona). Between them they can produce 26 different types of plasma-derived products, which are marketed in 67 countries.
