Recruitment is underway and jobs will be in the areas of engineering, quality, manufacturing, customer operations and administration.
Cambus Medical, a medical device company with a manufacturing footprint in Galway, is hiring for highly skilled professionals as part of a €1.9m expansion.
It plans to hire more than 40 professionals in engineering, quality, manufacturing, customer operations and administration.
The expansion will provide extra production and manufacturing space as well as administration offices at the company’s current facilities in An Spidéal in Connemara.
This will allow the company to overcome previous capacity limitations, develop new manufacturing capabilities and explore new business opportunities.
Cambus Medical is a Freudenberg Medical joint venture partner and specialises in precision hypotubes, specialty needles and metal micro-component solutions to the medical device industry for minimally invasive medical devices used in diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.
It received a €1.9m support package from Údarás na Gaeltachta at the end of last year to support its expansion plans.
Cambus Medical’s CEO, Barry Comerford, said: “The team is delighted with the support from all of our stakeholders: Freudenberg Medical for its support and confidence in us, Údarás na Gaeltachta for investing in the site, and all of our staff for making this a reality.”
Dr Max Gisbert Kley, CEO of Freudenberg Medical, added that Cambus Medical has tripled the number of employees at the Galway facility since Freudenberg Medical’s first investment in 2013.
“This is a testament to Cambus’s strong market position as the technology leader for hypotubes and metal components for medical devices,” he said.
Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media Catherine Martin, TD, congratulated the medical device company on the expansion.
“The Cois Fharraige area has seen the announcement of up to 200 jobs in the medical device sector over the past few months, which is proof of what can be achieved on the west coast of Ireland with targeted State support.”
Recruitment is already underway at Cambus Medical and current vacancies can be found on the company’s website.
This is the second jobs announcement for Galway’s life sciences sector in as many weeks. Last week, Loughrea-headquartered Chanelle Pharma announced that it is expanding its manufacturing operations into Ballinasloe, creating 60 new jobs over the next five years.
