Internships may well be a rite of passage for many employees, at worst requiring slogging away for little or no pay, and at best being opportunities interns can take advantage of to gain skills and experience in a particular field.
In Ireland, a recent evaluation of the Government’s JobBridge internship scheme has claimed it is among the most successful of its kind in Europe, with three in five participants securing employment.
Besides JobBridge, individuals seeking internships can look to companies, such as Intel and Google, or colleges, some of which include internships as part of their programmes (obviously, gaining an internship via this route would require being enrolled in a programme).
This week, we (with tongue in cheek) tip our hats to interns, those individuals working to kickstart their careers.
