Web and email security player FireEye is establishing its EMEA technical support centre in Cork City and with it 150 new jobs. To mark the occasion and our first ‘Career memes of the week’, we tip our hat to the real IT crowd that fixes our computers and resurrects our mobile devices.
Tech support staff does much more than that, of course. They’re the folks who monitor and maintain computers and the networks within an organisation, diagnose and solve hardware and software faults, install and configure computer systems and enable the rest of computer-using staff to complete their jobs.
A good tech support worker needs to exercise logic and problem solving skills, and can earn a salary of €24,000- €72,000 in a permanent position, depending on the exact role and number of years of experience, according to the Morgan McKinley 2012 Salary Survey.
