One of the world’s largest privately-held medtech companies, Cook Medical, has announced 40 new jobs in Limerick and has lodged a planning application for new offices and a data centre.
Employing 880 people in Ireland and specialising in the development of urology, obstetrics, gynaecology and gastroenterology medical devices, Cook Medical exports worldwide from its Limerick facility.
Cook Medical announced the 40 new jobs as it marks 20 years in Limerick.
The company has added 200 people to its staff in the past two years and is currently recruiting for 40 vacancies in the areas of IT, engineering, data protection, manufacturing, marketing and customer service.
Cook Group employs more than 12, 000 people worldwide. The company provides minimally-invasive technologies that are designed to reduce the need for open surgery for patients worldwide.
“Over the past 20 years, the Limerick facility has evolved from a small-scale manufacturing and technology site, into a multi-disciplinary business and a hub for Cook Medical’s global operations,” said Bill Doherty, executive vice-president for EMEA at Cook Medical.
“Our Irish operation is key to our global business and our dedicated and talented team has helped to place the Limerick operation at the centre of Cook Medical’s global success story.”
Data centre
Cook Medical recently lodged a planning application with Limerick City and County Council to develop a new facility at the National Technology Park, O’Halloran Road, Limerick.
The planning application consists of a new three-storey facility including office space and a data centre on the 2.7-hectare site opposite its current headquarters.
“If successful, the planning application means that Cook Medical will be capable of expanding its operations when required in the future,” Doherty said.
