Computer maker Dell has selected Cherrywood, Dublin, as the location for a new Commerce Services R&D Centre that will employ more than 50 people.
The R&D work done at the centre will lead to increased functionality for Dell.com, improving the customer experience for the millions of people and businesses Dell engages with daily.
Richard Bruton, Ireland’s Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, said Ireland is at the heart of a trend by multinationals to deepen the impact of their investments in Ireland by attracting higher-value activities to their local operations.
“Today’s announcement by Dell is a great example of this trend – here is one of the biggest companies in the world, deciding to locate a high-end commercial R&D centre in Dublin, with the creation of more than 50 high-end engineering jobs,” Bruton said.
The Dublin-based R&D team will, working with colleagues in other centres, deliver new services and functionality that will be added to Dell’s online platform.
The new R&D operation fosters innovation and enhances the overall experience delivered to Dell’s customers, said Aongus Hegarty, president of Dell EMEA.
“I would like to thank the Government and its agencies for its support in helping establish the centre here. As the company changes and evolves, we are committed to ensuring the types of roles based in Ireland are representative of the company’s global strategy – today represents a major milestone in that regard.”
Dell launched a recruitment drive today for more than 50 highly skilled software engineers, technical programme managers and test engineers to help roll out the first phase of the new R&D centre.

IDA Ireland CEO Martin Shanahan said the launch of Dell’s new global Commerce Services R&D Centre in Cherrywood adds to Ireland’s reputation as a location for research and development facilities.
