Huge boost to Irish jobs market as 900 roles announced in 24 hours

16 Oct 2015

We’re just sitting here picking our jaws off the floor as an immense 24 hours saw over 900 jobs announced in Ireland.

The bulk of those positions were created in Fermanagh by Teleperformance, a customer service management company, who will roll the jobs out by 2018.

The rest of the week was no slouch either, with an additional 350 jobs announced. The big provider here is cloud expert Sage, more than doubling its workforce by bringing 300 jobs to Dublin.

And the good news doesn’t stop there. The latest Morgan McKinley report shows that financial services, professional services and life sciences have helped to boost the number of available jobs by 10pc.

The jobs market continues to flourish in tech, and this week we got a glimpse inside the offices of financial services company Fidelity Investments.

Sinead Gogan, head of HR at Fidelity, spoke to Siliconrepublic.com about the roles Fidelity is hiring for, the company ethos, and what they look for from candidates.

In terms of career development, Python Ireland, proponents of the use of the Python, is gearing up to launch Pycon Ireland, an annual event focusing on the coding language and encouraging its use.

There was plenty of good news, too, for those who are just beginning to build their careers, or even just taking their first tentative steps in STEM.

EU Code Week took place this week, aiming to encourage kids and adults to take up coding. We looked at some programme resources that could start you on the road to becoming a coding whizz.

And, last weekend, Silicon Republic visited Coder Girl Hack Day. As well as reporting on goings-on at the event, the Inspirefest team asked attendees about their hopes and ambitions. We gathered together some of the best answers.

Finally, we looked at Women Who Code (WWC), a US-based non-profit that aims to help women to excel in technology careers. WWC will be launching its first Irish group in November and is calling for women of all backgrounds to sign up.
