If you’re in the process of looking for a new job, we’ve got some good news for you.
This week saw an incredible 812 jobs announced on the island of Ireland, with big recruitment drives from Intelling and SAS, and a new regional jobs plan bringing 276 jobs to the south-east.
This week also brought us the countdown to Career Zoo, Ireland’s biggest tech recruitment event. For many Career Zoo 10 attendees, a new job will be just around the corner.

We took a look at the recent surge in the number of students taking STEM subjects at Junior Cert level, perhaps indicating that there’s a significant body of students interested in entering the sector after graduation.
Web Summit plans to help them along the way, announcing this week that 7,000 free tickets would be made available to second- and third-level students, permitting them entrance to two special events targeting students.
We try not to get bogged down in any one iteration of the tech sector here. It’s an industry that’s ever-changing and expanding, and the opportunities within it fluctuate just as much.
As such, we examined the increasingly prevalent practice of crowdsourcing tech solutions. We took a look this week at Appirio, a company that pitches problems as competition, encouraging a community to solve them. The company has more than 800,000 ‘employees’ on the books.

This week saw Apple finally reveal its latest tranche of products, including the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, the latest Apple TV, some Apple Watch advancements, and an intriguing new plan that would see Apple devotees paying a monthly fee for annual upgrades to the latest iPhone handset.
We took a non-reverential approach to Apple in this week’s memes, with our Android-powered staff highlighting the very worst of the Apple ‘fanboys’ (a term we use gender-neutrally).
