In honour of European Medtech Week 2018, we’ve researched some of the top firms in Ireland hiring in medtech right now.
This week marks the 2018 edition of European Medtech Week, a week during which organisations producing life-changing technologies hold events and activities to promote the value of their work.
As of 2016, the medtech sector employs a staggering 29,000 people in Ireland according to the IDA, which is the highest amount of people working in medtech per head of population in any country in Europe. Almost all of the top global medical technology companies (13 out of 15) call this country their home, 25pc of which have a shared service mandate.

Quidel
Quidel is a California-based diagnostic healthcare manufacturer that focuses on the areas of immunoassay development, automated manufacturing and monoclonal antibody characterisation and development.
It currently employs more than 1,200 people worldwide, which will soon include a number of people in Ireland amid news months ago that it will open a new centre in Galway and create 75 jobs.
Quidel is hiring in the areas of customer support and technical support.
Boston Scientific
First formed in 1979, Boston Scientific has since experienced massive growth and now serves millions of patients around the world. The company employs thousands of workers, including many in Ireland where it is one of the largest medtech employers.
Boston Scientific has available roles in IT, engineering and finance.
Edwards Lifesciences
Edwards Lifesciences specialises in artificial heart valves and haemodynamic monitoring. It was the subject of many attention-grabbing headlines in the past month with the news that it is searching for the site of a new manufacturing plant, with sites in Limerick and Shannon in the running. This new plant will, the company says, bring 600 jobs to Ireland in the next few years.
The company is already seeking candidates for roles in the areas of production, engineering and professional management.
BD
BD, originally founded as Becton Dickinson, is a global medtech firm with offices dotted around the globe, including Irish sites at Drogheda and Dún Laoghaire, and a newly minted R&D centre in Limerick.
It is hiring in a variety of areas including engineering, microbiology, QA and automation.
Medtronic
Medtronic employs more than 84,000 people in around 160 countries. It works in the areas of minimally invasive therapies, restorative therapies, cardiac and vascular therapies and diabetes therapies.
Medtronic has vacancies across a variety of disciplines.
Cook Medical
Cook Medical is a privately held medtech firm first founded in 1963 in Bloomington, Indiana. Initially, the company produced wire guides, needles and catheters, but has since expanded into 41 medical specialities and now provides devices to 135 countries around the world.
Cook Medical has available roles in regulatory affairs, market analysis, manufacturing, engineering, human resources and customer support.
Stryker
Stryker was founded in 1941 by orthopaedic surgeon Dr Homer Stryker after he realised that if he couldn’t find the adequate tools to treat his patients, he’d simply have to invent them himself. Since then, the company has grown to offer products across a range of functions in more than 100 countries.
Stryker is seeking applicants for positions in quality engineering, manufacturing engineering, research and development, human resources and project management.
