Today we continue our countdown of Ireland’s top jobs announcement stories of 2012. It was the year companies in sectors that are thriving despite the downturn – technology, science and pharma – created jobs in their organisations, ranging from multinationals to start-ups.
Agri-food and food innovation company Kerry Group, for example, announced 900 jobs, betting giant Paddy Power proclaimed 800 new jobs, and financial services giant Northern Trust revealed it would be hiring to fill 400 positions.

10 – Nightline to invest €5m in Parcel Motel, creating about 50 jobsIrish domestic parcel delivery company Nightline has announced a €5m investment in a new Parcel Motel service, which offers round-the-clock delivery for online shoppers. The investment will increase the number of units in Dublin, as well as create about 50 jobs. Parcel Motels are self-service terminals located at petrol station forecourts, convenience store car parks and other areas. Each unit consists of 80 storage lockers, to which online shoppers can have their purchases delivered by setting up an account online. |

9 – Eishtec to create 250 call centre jobs in WaterfordCall centre company Eishtec will create 250 jobs in Waterford, which will be a major gain for the area after TalkTalk closed its call centre in the region. The company recently secured a contract to offer customer service support for British mobile operator Orange. The new jobs are being created as part of this contract, with its Cleaboy Business Park facility’s expansion partially funded through Enterprise Ireland. |

8 – Folens to create 25 jobs with new e-learning start-up ApierianIrish educational publisher Folens announced it’s spinning out a new online and mobile learning company called Apierian and it began hiring immediately to fill 25 positions. Folens, which is based in Tallaght, Dublin, revealed that Apierian will be headed by Brian Halpin, the group’s product director. |

7 – HCL Technologies to create Kilkenny jobsBusiness services and IT outsourcing provider HCL Technologies is to create some 220 jobs in Kilkenny with the establishment of a customer services centre. The Indian company and IDA Ireland haven’t confirmed final job numbers, but HCL Technologies has been actively recruiting for the roles, RTÉ News reported. |

6 – PayPal confirms 1,000 new jobs for DundalkOnline payment service PayPal confirmed it will create 1,000 jobs over the next four years at its new European Operations Centre in Dundalk, Co Louth. The new operations opened in July 2012. The Dundalk centre and PayPal’s Blanchardstown, Dublin, site will be responsible for customer services, risk prevention, financial operations, merchant services and sales across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. |
