It seems that tech jobs announcement season is in full swing as this has been another stellar week for tech candidates.
Following on the heels of an incredible October – a total of 2,725 tech jobs were announced during the month and, in one single day, a mind-blowing 900 came to market – November’s off to a great start, with more than 500 tech jobs announced this week.
Of these, 320 were announced in one fell swoop, with six separate Dublin companies announcing expansion and hiring plans.
That wasn’t the end of the good news for the capital, either, with Affidea – formerly Euromedic – announcing a further 100 jobs and Tata announcing 80.
Of course, Cork can never allow itself to be left out. The Skibbereen-based Spearline Labs announced 20 roles just this afternoon.
No doubt at least some of those jobs will be in infosec – an area that is seeing immense growth in line with the surge in massive hacks and the increased scrutiny placed on privacy and security concerns. This week, Hays Recruitment took a close-up look at the careers in infosec.
At the other end of the tech career spectrum – those who are just taking their tentative first steps into the tech world – this week saw the final call for secondary school students to take part in Google’s Call to Code competition.
It also saw the launch – and first session – of Ireland’s inaugural Techmums course, to be held in Dublin’s Digital Hub. Dr Sue Black, Techmums founder and Inspirefest speaker, was on hand to take the new students through their paces on the first day.
Finally, on a much lighter note, it has come to light that a paltry one in four of us thinks our parents have any idea what we do for a living. God, mum and dad, way to show you care…
