Online travel hub TripAdvisor announced the establishment of its first European engineering hub in Dublin’s docklands region and will begin recruitment for 50 engineering roles immediately.
The Dublin location will be TripAdvisor’s largest engineering operation outside its US base and will be a hub for key engineering roles globally.
The decision to locate in Dublin’s ‘Silicon Docks’, according to SVP of engineering and operations Andy Gelfond, was based on the availability of talent.
“As a global and growing company, we need to expand the places where we can find best-in-class talent. Given the robust roles we are looking to recruit, we felt it was important to base our new engineering hub in a location that had a history of supporting technology and innovation, and had a talent pool to recruit from, and in that respect Dublin fits the bill perfectly,” he said.
TripAdvisor operates branded sites in 30 countries worldwide, accumulating more than 260m unique monthly visitors between them. Engineers based in Dublin will work closely with the US team to bring new features to these websites and TripAdvisor’s business products.
At least 50 high-quality web engineering roles will be filled in the short-term and this team will be working under Lars Holzman, who has been appointed engineering site manager for the new hub.
TripAdvisor’s move to Dublin has been supported by IDA Ireland and CEO Barry O’Leary believes its presence will bring excellent career opportunities for highly skilled engineers in Ireland.
The Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton, TD, said that today’s announcement confirms Dublin’s status as “the internet capital of Europe”.
