This week’s career memes pay tribute to IT recruiters, those who help fill job openings at organisations with the likes of web developers, software engineers and technical support personnel.
IT recruiters work to discover companies that have job openings for IT personnel by either networking, making cold calls or seeking referrals. Once a relationship is established with an organisation, the IT recruiter may help develop strategies and improvements to the hiring process.
He or she will also sift through CVs obtained via job postings, job fairs and social networks, for example, and identify the best possible candidates for a job opening, while adhering to any policies and procedures from the hiring company.
IT recruiters will then screen/interview selected candidates and act as a communication link between the hiring company and candidates.
IT recruiters generally have a bachelor’s degree, usually in IT, business, communications, or human resources. They require excellent communication, interview, organisational, problem solving and time management skills, as well as the ability to use office software programs, such as Excel.
In Ireland, a recruitment specialist can expect to earn an average annual salary of €32,000-€55,000, according to Brightwater’s 2014 Salary Survey.
