UpStarter’s sixth event brought some of the biggest companies in tech into contact with passionate jobseekers. Here’s what they were looking for.
From about 10 companies in a small bar, to 30 companies and more than 3,000 attendees, UpStarter has gone from strength to strength.
With global tech giants, young start-ups and eager tech talent in attendance every year, it’s no surprise that it’s the perfect event to bring talent and tech companies together.
Having just launched a year ago, UpStarter has managed to quadruple in size since its first event.
UpStarter hosted its sixth event on 3 October. Siliconrepublic.com headed to the Mansion House, Dublin, to find out what some of the biggest tech companies in attendance were looking for.
Sabrina Connor, senior recruitment consultant at Deloitte said the event was a great opportunity to connect with talent. “We’re looking for people who are passionate about making an impact that matters.”
Software giant Zendesk was also in attendance, hoping to fill some of its 300 roles in Dublin. Recruiter Seán Delea said: “We’re looking for a broad range of candidates. We’re hiring across all of our different departments.”
One of the unique elements of UpStarter is its appeal for tech talent across all levels, from graduates to senior staff. EY’s Enda Daly said it’s that dual audience that makes the event really appealing.
Software analytics company New Relic is also currently driving recruitment both in Dublin and across the EMEA region. Senior recruiter, Mark Paterson, said the company is looking for several hundred staff over the next two years.
“We’re looking for candidates across sales, technical support, engineering, finance, developers, etc.”
For the less experienced people looking to work in tech, companies such as Accenture were pushing for graduates and interns at UpStarter. Niall Smith, manager at Accenture Technology, was at the event looking for talent.
“We’re working with the biggest clients globally so we have a huge presence and a lot of stuff to do and we need good, motivated people that want to come and do it.”
