Early entries for the Comedy Pet Photography Awards are in, with hilarious images of horses, dogs and cats competing for the top prize.
Photography awards are getting stranger and stranger.
For example, every July, the best iPhone photographs are named in what appears to be a fast-growing competition. Last year, photographer of the year, Siyuan Niu, won with his image of a man and an eagle.
Elsewhere, we have the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards, with Angela Bohlke’s stunning image of a fox face-planting into the snow in Yellowstone National Park taking last year’s top prize.
Along that theme, the Comedy Pet Photography Awards competition is now open for entries, and has already secured some interesting snaps.
Entries can still be submitted online until the end of May, with a £2,000 cash prize, a Think Tank camera bag and £100 gift voucher from Wex Photographic on offer for the best snap.
“It’s been great to see so many entries coming in,” said wildlife photographer and co-founder of the awards, Paul Joynson-Hicks.
“Despite this being the inaugural year of the competition, the quality of some of the photographs is wonderful, both from a comedic and photographic perspective.
“We wanted to see the funniest photos of pets from across the globe and, to our delight, the entries we’ve received so far have gone over and above our expectations. We can’t wait to see more!”
Here are some of the better entries so far.
The competition is being supported by the Animal Welfare Foundation and the Humane Society of the United States.
