eBay.ie has predicted that Sunday, 5 December will be its busiest online shopping day of 2010 in Ireland and is expecting 100,000 shoppers to log onto its store that day.
eBay predicts that this Sunday, shoppers will buy an average of one gift every 20 seconds, providing for a 33pc rise in sales from last year.
“The strongest sales have been seen this year in the categories of clothing, computers and consumer electronics, as the biggest savings can be made here compared to the high street,” said Ruth Szyszkowski of eBay.ie.
“Christmas doesn’t need to be compromised this year and Irish shoppers are keen to take the hassle out of Christmas by buying online for great value deals delivered to their doors, in plenty of time to get under the tree.”
eBay also said that on average, Irish shoppers will spend €312 on gifts, with 10pc planning to spend more than €375.50.
The average person will buy between six and 10 gifts, with mothers being the most prolific buyers of 2010.
According to eBay’s predictions, the most popular presents this year on eBay will be an Xbox and a Kinect. Coming in fourth will be the iPad and seventh will be the video game Call of Duty: Black Ops.
