A dozen photographers from all over the world have been named winners at the 2017 Magnum and LensCulture Photography Awards.
Covering an array of themes, from foliage to fitness, Magnum and LensCulture have revealed the 12 winning photographers for their annual awards.
Separated into two categories, the six series winners and six single-image winners will each receive $3,000 and $1,500, respectively.
One of the winning photographers is based in Ireland, with Galway-based Polish professional Szymon Barylski’s ‘Fleeing Death’ winning the Photojournalism Single Image prize.
His photography showcases refugees waiting at the checkpoint in Idomeni, Greece in 2016.
The winning projects will be shown in a digital exhibition at The Photographers’ Gallery in London later this year and exhibited at photography festivals worldwide.
The list of festivals includes Voies Off Arles, FORMAT International Photography Festival, Belfast Photo Festival, Athens Photo Festival, Circulation(s) Photo Festival, Tokyo International Photography Festival, Cortona on the Move, Medium Festival of Photography and Copenhagen Photo Festival, among others.
The organisers will provide “expert guidance” to the winners, too, with the images shared throughout their combined audience of around 6.5m.
Here, we include all 66 winning images, a full 51 more than last year.

Confiscated. “Surely an elephant foot is of no real use to anyone but the animal itself. These elephant feet were attempted to be smuggled from Africa to the US, but were seized by the American Border Patrol and are currently stored at the National Wildlife Repository, Denver, Colorado, USA. I have been documenting illegally traded wildlife products since August 2016 at borders and airport across the globe.” Image: Britta Jaschinski, Open Single Image winner, Magnum and LensCulture Photography Awards 2017
