YouTube is celebrating its sixth birthday this month, revealing that since last weekend, the site is receiving 3bn views a day.
This marks a 50pc increase in views from last year. YouTube notes this is the equivalent of each US resident watching at least nine videos a day.
YouTube also said that more than 48 hours of video are uploaded to the site every minute, a 100pc increase since 2010.
Since the beta launch of the video-sharing site in May 2005, YouTube has become a phenomenal success. Created by Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim, the site was officially launched in December 2005. By then, 8m videos were watched per day.
Less than a year later, the site was acquired by Google for US$1.65bn.
Along with the millions of hours of video generated by users, the site has more than 10,000 partners, including Disney and Channel 4.
