Social scrapbook Pinterest has added a new messaging feature that allows users to hold conversations about Pins without leaving the site.
Last year, Pinterest launched its popular Send a Pin feature to notify friends of items they have Pinned.
Pinterest revealed that since then, every day people send more than 2m Pins about food, fashion, design, art and other treasures.
Now, when a friend shares a Pin users will be able to reply or send a Pin back.
Users can also send Pins and messages to multiple groups of people around events they are planning or to simply start a conversation about a subject.
“We hope this will help you plan projects, swap creative ideas and share your best discoveries with each other,” said Tom Watson, product designer with Pinterest.
The move follows news in March that Pinterest pushing forward with plans to monetise the platform and that users will start to see Promoted Pins cropping up in their feed.
Established in 2010, the company scored a US$225m funding round last October and has been valued at US$3.8bn.
