Steam Mobile beta app launched for iOS, Android

Valve has launched a Steam beta app for iOS and Android devices, letting users chat with friends, buy games for PCs and Macs and keep up with news across the online games distribution platform.

Steam Mobile is a limited beta for now, meaning only users which were invited can use the app at the moment. Those looking to join the beta need to download the app and log into their Steam account to express interest in the beta. More users will be added as the service continues.

The app lets users browse for and buy games across Steam for PCs and Macs, which will be downloaded once the user accesses his or her computer.

It lets users chat with friends across Steam, browse community groups and user profiles and view screenshots and user-generated content for their selected games.

Valve’s co-founder Gabe Newell said the app comes from “many direct requests from our customers.”

“Mobile is changing way people interact, play games and consume media, and the Steam app is part of our commitment to meet customer demands and expand the service functionality of Steam to make it richer and more accessible for everyone,” said Newell.
