Workers can not only make computing greener, but they can do so quite easily by modifying how they use the hardware at the office, a new infographic reveals with some surprising figures.
The infographic by ICP Networks that’s published on Visual.ly even mentions internet search giant Google could save 750 Megawatt hours a year if it changed its background from white to black. (By the way, Google Custom Search-powered Blackle seeks to save energy by displaying a black background and using a grey font colour for search results).
By changing our own computer-use habits, such as activating sleep mode on a regular basis, we would be contributing to the equivalent of blocking the yearly emissions of 150 cars or planting 367 acres of trees, according to the infographic.
