The chief technology officer of NASA Dr Sasi Pillay will address a seminar organised by the NUI Maynooth-headquartered Innovation Value Institute (IVI) in Washington, DC, this week.
In 2006, Intel and NUI Maynooth co-founded the IVI, which has grown into a global network of CIOs and IT directors in 75 large organisations in 20 countries, including Boston Consulting, BNY Mellon, BP, Chevron and Cisco.
The organisation has created the IT-CMF, a framework for defining and developing IT management capabilities and practices across most industry sectors.
Pillay, who will be speaking at an event on 24 July organised by the Washington chapter of the IVI, has been the recipient of NASA’s Exceptional Service Medal and the Presidential Rank Award, which recognises him as a meritorious executive in the US federal government.
He will provide a CTO perspective on the changing role and expectations from IT in the public sector. He will also discuss the challenges of current IT practices, the need for change within the IT organisation and what management needs to do differently to transform IT posture.
Other speakers include Dr David Paschane, director, Department of Veteran Affairs, who will address the topic ‘The Next Government CIO: Influencing the Deeper Value’. Prof Martin Curley, vice-president, Intel and co-director, IVI, will share how Intel transformed its IT capability and is delivering tangible and sustainable value to the business.
