Opera Software, the company behind the popular Opera web browser, is decreasing its power consumption by more than 35pc by moving to a new generation of green servers.
Shortly after the unveiling of a new energy efficient Icelandic data centre, Opera is reducing its carbon footprint even further by replacing its current data server parks which provide the Opera Mini and Opera Turbo services for more than 120 million Opera users worldwide.
Choosing Dell for the hardware solutions for its data centres, Opera is now centralising management of machines and software for easier access to maintenance.

In order to continue to successfully deliver this level of service, we rely on our IT infrastructure to support our business by providing top performance and reliability,” said Rikard Gillemyr, EVP of engineering.
Opera Co-founder Jon von Tetzchner said it is important to strike a balance between respecting the environment and offering the best possible service to end users.
“Opera Mini is the world’s largest mobile browser and growing rapidly. To keep up with growth while maintaining a low overhead on resources, having the optimal configuration of hardware is essential,” he commented.
