In what has to be the most unique co-working space in Dublin, the new Dospace.ie offices exist on a barge in Silicon Docks. It is the brainchild of entrepreneur Graham Barker.
After a fruitless search for his own reasonably-priced and fun Silicon Docks office space, Barker hit on the idea of installing office space on a barge that sits just a few yards downriver from Google and Facebook’s shiny new offices.
The DoSpace barge has 800 square feet of office space with short or long-term options available for entrepreneurs, founders or visiting executives from international companies.
With support from Waterways Ireland, Barker sourced, refitted and connected The Grey Owl to be a digital workspace.
A co-working space on the water
“This is the kind of place that people want to work in – it’s centrally located, next to the Dart, a Dublin Bikes stand across the road, beside all the big tech companies, and we are on the water,” Barker said.
“Everyone I’ve met has been very supportive – from Waterways Ireland to the co-working space community. I think most people can see the benefit that we bring to the area, and the sheer value that we offer to startups.”
One early adopter of DoSpace is Security First, a London based start-up led by Irish entrepreneurs creating technology to help human rights defenders work safely.
Security First co-founder, Holly Kilroy, said: “I’ve been blown away by the location and how useful the DoSpace community has been to us already. Having such a well-connected co-working space in Dublin has saved us time and money and made it easier to move the company home.

DoSpace membership starts from €50 a month and 10pc of deskspace is free-of-charge to non-profit technology start-ups.
