To mark International Women’s Day on 8 March, some of the leading women within the Irish gaming industry will come together at DogPatch Labs in Dublin to highlight what women are bringing to the table in game development.
The Diversity in Gaming event at Dogpatch Labs is the result of a multi-pronged partnership between Vicky-Twomey Lee of Coding Grace, Aphra Kerr of gamedevelopers.ie and Digit Game Studios to celebrate a typically unheralded area of the cottage industry that is the Irish game development sector.
Taking place in the evening, the free event will host a series of short 10-minute talks by women involved in the games industry, working as professionals, entrepreneurs, makers, crafters and gamers, to give a flavour of what it’s like within the industry from their perspective.
A number of topics are also expected to be brought up by the panel, including what quality assurance brings to the games industry, interactive writing within the development cycle and what it’s like to run a business and develop a game at the same time.
Some familiar faces
In total, the event will have six speakers, including Jen Carey of Fickle Games; Tracey McCabe of Spooky Doorway; Anne-Sophie Mongeau of Digit Game Studios; Jas Panaich of Riot Games, Charlene Putney of Larian Studios and Elaine Reynolds of Simteractive.
After the presentations, those in attendance will get the chance to network with their peers and, more importantly, try out some game demos.
There was cause for celebration for one of the organisers of next week’s Diversity in Gaming event as Twomey-Lee was recently named in Siliconrepublic.com’s list of 15 wonderful women working to change the face of tech.
