Ireland’s start-up scene has been given a welcome boost with the news that super angel investor Dave McClure of 500 Startups will be headlining the first AngelSummit Europe event to take place in Dublin in June.

Startup Angels has revealed that the European iteration of its event this year will take place in Dublin, and its first batch of speakers includes the most prominent early-stage investor in Silicon Valley, Dave McClure.

Among the likely discussions at the event will be the Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme (SEIS) and structural roadblocks to investment in Ireland’s start-up scene.

The 300-person capacity, two-day event, will take place in Dublin on 8 and 9 June in Google’s Foundry, and, alongside McClure, speakers will include Jason Ball, managing director of Qualcomm Ventures Europe, and Anne Ravanona, founder of Global Invest Her.

Startup Angels and Google for Entrepreneurs said that the event aims to tackle the scarcity of start-up capital, explore trends in angel investment, and share what can be done to encourage early-stage investment start-up ecosystems around the globe.

Access to capital

The event will hold a series of workshops and programmes for both new and expert start-up investors. These events will aim to explore best practices and chart the future of start-up investing.

Attendees will also feature leaders from companies including Atomico; Techstars; StartupBootcamp; Accel; Bank of Ireland; Accenture, Ryan Academy, Google and many more.

“Start-ups and ideas are ubiquitous these days, but early stage capital isn’t as common,” said Startup Angels founder and CEO Leslie Jump.

“We’re to have a good, honest and open conversation on ‘access to capital’, with attendees and speakers from around the world that will come to this event as peers,” said  Jump.

“Our partnership with Google for Entrepreneurs gives us great scope to accelerate the pace of growth in some growing ecosystems.”

Speaking on Ireland as a venue, Jump said: “AngelSummit Europe this year takes place as the amount of top product-building start-ups in Europe increases. Silicon Valley is great but it doesn’t have a monopoly on great ideas and investment in the good ideas coming from Europe should be encouraged and the benefits outlined to potential angel investors.”
