Social blogging platform Tumblr has raised US$85m from seasoned Silicon Valley venture capitalists Greylock Partners, which has invested in Facebook and Groupon, and Insight Partners, which has invested in Twitter.
Other investors include Sir Richard Branson, Spark Capital, Union Square Ventures, Sequoia Capital and the Chernin Group.
Tumblr, which David Karp founded in 2007, hosts a community of more than 17.5m social blogs.
Emphasising ease of use, the service functions as a microblogging platform that allows users to post text, images, quotes, links, videos and audio.
The company is headquartered in New York.
