The managing director of Facebook’s Irish operations Sonia Anne Flynn is to leave to join music platform SoundCloud in Berlin.
Flynn presided over the recent growth phase of Facebook in Dublin to 500 workers and a new HQ capable of accommodating 1,000 people.
Flynn will join SoundCloud as international vice president. She took over from colleague Colm Long in 2011 when he left to take up a senior position at Facebook’s headquarters in Silicon Valley. Long has since left Facebook to take up the role of chief revenue officer at Flipboard.
Prior to joining Facebook, both Flynn and Long, along with Twitter’s Stephen McIntyre, were part of the management team at Google, led by John Herlihy, who led the massive growth of Google in Dublin to employ close to 5,000 people directly and indirectly.
SoundCloud is a platform for musicians and podcasters who want to share audio across devices, websites and social media platforms, and achieve maximum impact.
Sound designer Alex Liung and artist Eric Wahlforss founded the Berlin-headquartered company in 2007 to enable musicians to share audio.
One of the key features of SoundCloud is it allows artists to upload their music or podcast, create a distinctive URL and embed their audio file anywhere they choose.
