Gigglebit is Siliconrepublic’s daily dose of the funny and fantastic in science and tech, to help start your day on a lighter note.

Like any sector, technology has a serious side, and it is often issues within this serious side that make headlines or that organisations need to explore for their business. Malware! Data breaches! Cloud storage! Do I really need this software? Which candidate has the best IT skills for this job? And what the heck is fog computing?

With Gigglebit, we turn the spotlight on humorous and/or amazing content about science and tech, because sometimes the lighter side should be taken seriously, too.

Today, we point you in the general direction of ‘Weird’ Al Yankovic and his latest album, Mandatory Fun.

Yankovic has been making parodies of popular songs since his food-based take on ‘My Sharona’ in 1979. Though his lampooning tunes and music videos such as ‘Eat It’ rose to prominence during the Eighties, they hit just the right note with today’s viral-watching generation.

Yankovic’s 14th studio album (and possibly his last), took a leaf out of Beyoncé’s playbook when it dropped this week with a succession of videos released each day. So far, Yankovic has left his indelible mark on hit songs from Lorde, Pharrell Williams, Robin Thicke and Iggy Azalea, each one receiving millions of YouTube views in just a matter of days. Suffice it to say, we’re keeping an eye on www.weirdal.com for the rest!
