Millions of people around the world watched Uruguay football player Luis Suarez allegedly bite Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini on the shoulder during the teams’ World Cup match yesterday, and many reacted online.
It’s almost impossible to understand the mentality of supposedly one of the best footballers in the world, thinking this might be a good time to have a nibble – for the third time – of a player.
After the game, back in the RTÉ studios, the panel found the whole incident a little funnier than their counterparts in the BBC by making the obvious jokes of Suarez fancying a bit of Italian dining with Johnny Giles struggling to think of an Italian dish: “… spaghetti”.
However, there is little to joke about in the Uruguayan camp today, as football’s governing body FIFA officially charged Suarez with biting Chiellini. FIFA is looking into the incident as a breach of its code of conduct and, if found guilty of assaulting an opponent, Suarez will be facing a ban of at least two matches up to a maximum of 24 months.
This still hasn’t stopped thousands of people (and companies looking to jump on the bandwagon) on Twitter from showing off their Photoshopped Suarez-inspired works, some of which have been nothing short of excellent.
And finally, it’s amazing how similar ‘dog whisperer’ Cesar Millan and Luis Suarez look like father and son.
