BearingPoint's Karl Byrne discusses the top trends in software development, from an emphasis on cybersecurity to coping with digital transformation.
The role of a software developer is one of the most popular and well-known jobs in tech, and its popularity has only continued to grow with the emergence of various disruptive technologies, such as AI and virtual reality.
But to what extent does the current wave of innovation affect the role of a software developer? According to Karl Byrne, director of software engineering at BearingPoint, the software development industry is “constant evolving and rapidly changing”.
Among the top trends that Byrne says are changing the industry, such as “low-code, no-code platforms”, is a strong emphasis on cybersecurity resulting in the creation of DevSecOps teams.
“Some of the challenges we face in the software technology sector are keeping pace with the amount of innovation that’s going on, dealing with legacy monolith applications and trying to transform them into a way that can be an agile software development process,” says Byrne.
Byrne also discussed the ways that leaders can deal with digital transformation, such as making sure there’s a “clear mission, vision and strategy associated with the digital transformation” and carrying out regular team health checks.
