In the seventh episode of The Leaders’ Room season two, we spoke to Clio’s CEO and co-founder, Jack Newton.

The Leaders’ Room podcast features interviews with the country managers of some of Ireland’s leading sci-tech multinationals. It was created in partnership with IDA Ireland.

Episode seven of season two features Jack Newton, CEO and co-founder of Canadian legal tech provider Clio.

He said one of the most important traits of a leader, no matter what organisation they’re in, is humility and an understanding that “we don’t know all the answers”.

“When you’re hiring leaders at a company, you’re hopefully hiring a combination of experience. You want people who have seen the movie before, who can help accelerate growth and who can help avoid some unforced errors. But at the same time, I’m a big believer in the fact that history doesn’t repeat itself, but it does rhyme,” he said.

“When you bring in these leaders who might have great experience from another company with a similar story to yours, you want them to come in with an open mindedness about what it’s going to take to drive growth and innovation in your company. Again, a little humility and an understanding that they’re going to learn something as well, and they might make mistakes, and that’s OK.”
