There are more open roles in tech than there are people to fill them. Part of the reason for that is the skills gap that is pervasive in the sector.
The tech sector is growing vastly. With that growth, comes multitudes of open roles that remain unfilled, as the talent pool – at times – struggles to keep up with new skills.
There are numerous ways to tackle that skills gap. The most obvious, arguably, is to start growing a sufficient talent pool from a young age. Train children in the skills required in tech roles and future vacancies will be filled by highly skilled workers.
We spoke to Aengus McClean, SVP of AOL Platforms at AOL Technologies, Dublin, who told us about some of the things that need to be done to encourage children to start working towards careers in tech.
